BRITISH CRAFTSMANSHIP
A well-made candle is as much about how it burns as how it smells. The relationship between wax, fragrance and wick determines the quality of the flame, the melt of the wax and the way scent is released into a room.
Union of London candles are made in Leicestershire using wide braided cotton wicks, chosen to create a generous, steady flame and an even melt across the glass. Each fragrance is carefully balanced for a clean, consistent burn from first light to last.
It is a simple object, but one where considered materials and small details make all the difference.

Founded in London by Leicestershire-native Mark Staples, Union of London grew from years spent working as a graphic designer and refining the art of the perfect candle. Since returning home to Leicestershire, the brand has continued to make its distinctive hand-poured candles from the county.
The brand’s hand-poured candles are crafted using responsibly sourced European soy wax and a distinctive wide braided cotton wick, creating a generous flame, even burn and exceptional scent throw. Thoughtfully designed and beautifully made, they bring warmth, fragrance and a quiet sense of occasion to everyday life.

Hand-turned in Leicestershire, the sculptural Ziggy totem lamp is crafted from beech and hand-painted in a custom finish. Natural variations in the timber, turning and hand-applied finish give each lamp base its own individual character. We apply a light layer of protective natural oil to each raw base.

A generously sized working trug, handmade in English oak in Rutland.
Divided into two compartments with a balanced flat handle, it is finished with considered details including traditional corner joinery and a French nail securing the handle.
Made to be put to work, its purpose depends entirely on where it lands. At 39 × 20 cm, there is ample room for paintbrushes and artists' materials, hand tools, gardening gloves and secateurs, bottles and jars, or cutlery and napkins for a tableful.

A wheel-thrown ceramic plant pot with a hand-shaped ruffled collar and delicate ceramic bow. Complete with a matching saucer and drainage hole. Each piece is thrown and altered by hand, meaning that each is slightly different, with its own arrangement of folds and details.

A contemporary take on the traditional milking stool, made in solid hardwood with a hand-woven rush seat by Summerfield + Scott in Northamptonshire.
Small in stature but surprisingly useful, its pared-back timber frame is topped with rush harvested and prepared by hand, then woven in the workshop using traditional techniques. Each stool is made individually, with variations in the timber grain, colour and rush weave giving every piece its own character.
Designed to move around the house and find its own purpose — beside the bath, next to a bed, as a footstool or a seat for smaller members of the household. A familiar piece of country furniture, reconsidered for the contemporary home.
