WELCOME TO THE NOTSWOLDS | Adam Dant

£800.00

Created for Notswolds, Adam Dant brings his singular eye for place, character and tradition to a map of England’s overlooked heartland. Part cartography, part social history and part affectionate satire, the work charts the towns, trades, landscapes and peculiarities that give the region its identity.

Known for his richly detailed hand-drawn panoramas of British life, Dant has filled the map with local stories, historic references and the makers, landmarks and rituals that still shape everyday life here. A piece to study slowly and return to often, it offers a spirited portrait of a region too often passed over, and a record of the good work and distinct culture found within it.

THE MAKING OF THE MAP

Renowned for his richly detailed, Hogarthian graphic style, Adam Dant has been praised by both The Guardian and the Financial Times, and is widely regarded as one of Britain’s leading contemporary draughtsmen.

‘Welcome to the Notswolds’ was commissioned to give form to a region that has never been clearly drawn, and to set down the stories that define it.

Through Dant’s precise and densely worked composition, the map brings together characters, histories and fragments of folklore, placing them within the landscape they belong to. What emerges is not just a geography, but a record of a place understood through what has happened here and what continues to be told.
