Originally created to showcase Jessica’s fabric at BADA, it brings together distinctive British textile design and beautifully made furniture in one small but characterful piece.

British craftsmanship

Britain has a rich tradition of furniture making, from cabinetmaking and joinery to the decorative art of woodturning. The Rutland Shelves draw on that history through their cotton-reel turning, an established furniture-making detail given a new role and a more contemporary character.

JC+CO combine skilled making with a genuine devotion to wood: its grain, colour, movement and the way it changes according to how it is cut, turned and finished. Here, fuming brings greater depth to the oak while allowing the natural character of the timber to remain at the heart of the piece.

It is an approach we value at Notswolds: preserving the knowledge and skill of traditional craft, not by standing still, but by knowing it well enough to take it somewhere new.

  • Based in rural Northamptonshire, Flora and Charlie Scott restore antique and vintage furniture using traditional techniques and thoughtful repair.

    Through The Rush Project, they are helping to champion the heritage craft of rush weaving for a new generation. Their contemporary collection of handcrafted rush-seated furniture celebrates the beauty, practicality and sustainability of this centuries-old skill through pieces designed for modern living.

    • Wipe the ash frame with a soft, slightly damp cloth; avoid harsh cleaning products.

    • Dust or gently vacuum the rush seat using a soft brush attachment.

    • Avoid soaking the rush or allowing water to sit on the seat.

    • Keep away from direct sources of heat, which can dry out natural rush.

    • As a natural material, the rush will mellow in colour and develop character with age.

  • Each piece is made to order, please allow 8-12 weeks for production.
