Hand Block Printed Wallpaper
Information Sheet

We manufacture wallpaper through the traditional process of hand block printing which has been around, here in England, since the 16th Century, and means all of our papers are handmade from start to finish. Therefore, there are a few important pieces of information to note.

Being handmade, our wallpapers contain quirks which are all part of a block prints charm and are often the main factors behind the choice of a handmade paper over a machine print. These include texture and marks within the print and hand-painted background which depend on the pressure applied to the block and the painter’s brushstrokes. Also, the pattern might not always be accurate and can vary along the drop meaning that a perfect match is not always possible. Every order is unique and carefully hand-crafted to order and is therefore distinguishable from a machine print.

As a result of our handmade process, variations will occur from one batch to another, so batches should not be mixed. Therefore, we do recommend ordering 1 – 2 spare rolls depending upon the quantity of your order. The hanging of our hand block printed wallpapers requires a skilled decorator who has experience with working with handmade papers, and a copy of our own hanging instructions will be included in every order as reference.

All of our wallpapers are supplied coated with a matte varnish which will protect the handmade print without changing the feel of the paper, although it does not make the wallpaper waterproof. If the paper is to be used in such an environment like a bathroom, then we do recommend further varnishing on site once installed, which we can provide upon request.
