TRAVIS, THE DOG ABOUT TOWN

Travis and his owner Gary Curtis are a regular sight in the photogenic streets of Stamford. As the aesthete behind @theoldbuilding, Gary documents the town’s historic corners and changing light. Together they cover the town day after day, capturing the weathered stonework, painted doors and layered architecture that gives Stamford its character.

Daily life for the two of them moves between Stamford’s Georgian streets and the open parkland of Burghley. Travis, a ten year old miniature schnauzer known for his expressive huffs and stubborn streak. Gary, a designer and photographer, chronicling life in Stamford. They’ve become something of an iconic pairing around town, their days shaped by walking, noticing, and returning again and again to the places they know best.

Tell us about Travis

Travis is ten years old and a miniature schnauzer. He’s used to the camera - a few years ago he became the face of the Shop Stamford campaign, happily taking centre stage on social media walking around Pets Korner dressed up in his Christmas jumper.

What’s your dog’s favourite walk?
To the Diana Memorial Gardens at Burghley House

How well trained is Travis?
He is semi trained, but being a schnauzer, how much he wants to listen really depends on him!

Where will we usually find your dog?
Walking in Burghley House gardens or sleeping on the sofa in my office

What are your recommendations for dog friendly places to go?
Fineshade Woods offers a wonderful woodland walk. Lamberts is very dog friendly with blankets and bowls for that brunch out. A walk to Burghley House cafe is always a win.

What’s your dog’s quirkiest trait?
He huffs at you for attention, commands or demands.

What’s your dog’s toxic trait?
Stubborn! On walks, on food, anything.

Is he a dog or best friend?
Best friends. I got Travis when I started working freelance from home and he has been my constant companion for a decade now. He is my boy.
